Sustainability in the Workplace – What Accerta Is Doing to Make A Difference

17 Apr 2020

Here at Accerta, we take pride in our commitment to sustainability in the workplace. As a social enterprise that invests in healthcare initiatives that benefit Canadian communities, we provide reliable services that move communities toward sustainable health.

As a company, we understand that the risks of climate change will impact healthcare and socioeconomic systems in the years to come. In fact, a January report from McKinsey urges companies, big and small, to take immediate action and “take climate considerations into account when looking at capital allocation, development of products or services, and supply chain management”.

Aside from the obvious health and financial risks of climate change, the benefits to sustainability in the workplace are important to note. Green initiatives can reduce costs, increase productivity, enhance brand reputation, minimize waste and attract and retain employees.

No matter what prompts you to approach the issue, it’s evident that tomorrow’s offices can and should have a much smaller environmental impact than they do now.

Here are 4 things Accerta is doing to make a difference:

Certified B Corp Logo

1. We’re A Proud B Corporation

What does this mean? Being a certified B Corp means that we meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency as set by B Lab’s B Impact Assessment.

As a company, our vision is to help communities and individuals achieve better health, independence and productivity. We believe in the power of public healthcare, and continue to support local governments in providing low-income families access to free dental care.

2. We’re Paperless

With technology, it’s never been easier to go paperless than now. Each year, approximately 400 million metric tons of paper is produced and consumed globally. That averages to about two pieces of paper per person.

Doing our part to help save our environment, we’ve eliminated paper from our internal communications processes with the help of technology. Each Accerta employee is given a laptop when they are onboarded, which not only gives them the ability to work from home, but also the digital tools needed to eliminate paper use. Communication is possible via a good old fashion phone or email!

3. We’ve Eliminated Plastic Where Possible

According to the Government of Canada, every year, Canadians throw away over 3 million tonnes of plastic waste. This represents up to $8 billion per year in lost value and wastes valuable resources and energy.

While it’s difficult to cut out plastic from our lives completely, we’ve taken the steps to limit single-use plastics within our company, where possible. We’ve completely gotten rid of plastic cutlery in our office, no more plastic forks, knives or straws.

Imagine if every business and household does this, these small changes can make a big impact and reduce the amount of plastic waste going into a landfill.

4. We’re Digital

As a claims management service, our innovative and robust technology has helped expand our digital solutions to include online claims submissions and eligibility verification for practitioners. Our secure online portal, AccertaWorx, digitizes the entire process from claims adjudication to payment tracking and everything in between.

Accerta’s real-time claims management system is the most advanced in Canada, tailored to manage large volumes of government-sponsored healthcare benefits. Learn more about Accerta Advantages
